Colombian International in talks

Liverpool FC,, Andy Carroll

The Daily Mail is reporting Liverpool are currently in talks with representatives of Colombian international striker Jackson Martinez, who plays in the Mexican league for Jaguares Chiapas.

Martinez has also been on the radar of premiership clubs Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Portuguese club Porto. As more clubs have become interested in the Colombian the more the price has risen, from an initial enquiry made in September, we were quoted a fee of £5.5 million, now Jaguares wants £8.5 million.

Martinez has scored five goals in 10 appearances for his country and a goal every other game ratio for his club Jaguares. At 26 years of age he fits in with our stated age range for players coming to the club.

In my opinion it’s a tough call as I have not seen the lad play. We do need another striker, but of all the players we have been linked to, I still think Podolski would be perfect, but with talk of Demba Ba having a buy out clause in his contract of £10 million, both I believe would be a better buy than Martinez.

Meanwhile another hugely successful Don’t Buy The Sun concert was largely ignored by the mainstream media, surprise surprise, as the Justice Campaign and Hillsborough Family Support Group continue to maintain powerful presences in the city and elsewhere. read more
