Liverpool and Newcastle Exchange deal?

Liverpool FC, anfieldreview.com, Andy Carroll

As we are being linked with every striker on the planet here is a thought, how about we use Andy Carroll in part exchange for Demba Ba?

I must admit when we bought Andy from Newcastle we all knew we paid over the odds, but that wasn’t the lad’s fault. We needed a striker quick and Chelsea had paid over the odds for Fernando Torres, so it wasn’t as though we couldn’t afford it.

I watched Carroll just a month before he scored against us in a 3-1 defeat at St James Park. It was my birthday and so we decided to spend the night drinking in Darlington (Don’t ask why). But when we got Andy on the last day of the transfer window I thought it was a good buy for the club (and could still be).

But the price tag, injuries and fitness seem to have taken its toll on the lad mentally. I have watched him bully defences for Newcastle reminiscent of how Duncan Ferguson would do for Everton, but now he looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Culminating in the sad sight he was against Chelsea, where he spent more time on the floor than he did on his feet for the final 8 minutes or so he was on the pitch.

Maybe a move back to his hometown club will see him fulfil his undoubted potential. As for Demba Ba, he has played in different countries and seems to have energy, drive and ambition and he gets to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Anyone for a part-exchange then?

The Hillsborough Tapestry

Hillsborough remained in the headlines throughout 2011, not least because of the online petition that triggered calls for the full release of documents for debate, and lately more lame remarks by insufferable former tabloid editors. Meanwhile another hugely successful Don’t Buy The Sun concert was largely ignored by the mainstream media, surprise surprise, as the Justice Campaign and Hillsborough Family Support Group continue to maintain powerful presences in the city and elsewhere. read more
