Liverpool 1 Newcastle United 1

Steven Gerrard became only the 10th player to make 600 appearances for the club but it was the 25-year-old Suarez who stole the show against Newcastle, who finished with 10 men after Fabricio Coloccini was sent off late on.

The reds were trailing to Yohan Cabaye’s fantastic strike late in the first half, but it was Suarez who produced the best moment of the season let alone this game. It would have been harsh had the magpies ended our unbeaten run after spending most of the first half camped in the Newcastle half, only to be caught on the break just before half-time.

The reds forced a succession of corners and saw shots from Suso and Raheem Sterling either deflected wide or just off target, while Suarez curled a free-kick just wide. Krul made his first save of note from Suarez after Suso and Nuri Sahin had combined to set him racing down the right, and the Suarez had another chance that he headed wide from Gerrard’s cross.

Gerrard had a cheeky go at goal with a 60-yard free-kick in an attempt to catch Krul off his line but it dropped just over. Newcastle struck against the run of play when Andre Wisdom was penalised for a foul throw. Ben Arfa made a run for the byline and crossed to the far post where Cabaye controlled and smashed a superb half-volley past Brad Jones.

Just before the hour a Suarez shot was turned around the post by Krul, then Sahin had a strike bounce just past the same upright. The Reds dominance left the Magpies relying on counterattacking football. The equaliser came from a 50-yard ball out of defence by Enrique. The Uruguay striker, running at full tilt under pressure from Coloccini, controlled the ball on his shoulder, brought it down, rounded the keeper and slotted into the net, just awesome.

Moments later Suarez cut in from the right byline but he should have played Jonjo Shelvey in with a first time ball, but the delay see Jonjo Shelvey momentaraly look away and when the ball did finally get to him he could not get enough on it to divert it into the net.

A mistake from Enrique, sent Ameobi racing clear but Ben Arfa shot tamely at Jones. Coloccini put his side under pressure when he was sent off for a foul on Suarez with six minutes to go, Suarez continued to threaten, hitting a deflected free-kick which bounced freakishly on to the bar in the last minute of added time.
