Liverpool enter the race to sign Rory Donnelly

It’s always good to come away from Villa Park with 3pts, but it was the manor of our play that made me happy. We still lack that killer instinct, but it wasn’t down to a lack of shots with 17 attempts at goal.

There was lots of positives from yesterday, none least than from the Football Leagues young player of the Month, Jonjo Shelvey who seemed to be given a free role, just behind Suarez. He looked the complete player getting up and down the pitch, covering for other players when they went forward, and also getting into some great goal scoring positions. All that was missing was a goal to cap off a great performance.

Jordan Henderson also looks like he is starting to settle in, with a solid display next to Adam at the heart of our midfield, I personally feel it’s the best game his had in a red shirt. Another player who was non-stop was Craig Bellamy, and it wasn’t just his running, the ref’s ears must be burning this morning. Bellamy does have a point, especially when other players get away with more than he was booked for. All he wants is consistency.

Bellamy said, "We're a good team, there are no doubts about that. We are part of an incredible football club. When you go out onto the field, it's not just 11 players - it's 22/23 players. "To represent this club is a privilege, but you do have to carry a certain responsibility and style of play”.

Alex McLeish was in awe of Luis Suarez after the Liverpool striker tormented his Villa defence. Twice the Uruguayan was denied by the woodwork the second a beautiful clipped chip over the keeper that hit the back post. McLeish said, “There is little that can be done to stop Suarez when he is in full flight. Suarez is perpetual motion, he's a brilliant player, he can slip into holes that other players leave, he is a very elusive player.

Kenny Dalglish also praised the character of Suarez, "He only trained on Tuesday and Saturday and for him to put in a performance like that was unbelievable, and it speaks volumes for the man."
